A weekly fun chat on an eclectic selection of topics

Look lively this week, because we're talking about preserving dead things! We're talkin' formaldehyde.

  • Fun fact: Formaldehyde comes from form- and -aldehyde
    • An aldehyde is what we call any carbon molecule with a double-bonded oxygen on its end
    • Form- is the prefix we often give to organic molecules with one carbon, because:
      • Formic acid has one carbon
        • We named formic acid that because ants make formic acid and
        • Formica is latin for "ant"
    • All of which serves as a neat reminder that chemistry naming is real dumb
